After providing for the people you love, please consider leaving a gift to Freedom Charity in your Will.
Every girl should be safe from FGM, free to stay in school and able to choose her own future. No child should be forced into marriage.
Why Freedom exists
FGM and forcing a child to marry are forms of child abuse. Forced marriage can also affect adults of any gender. Freedom works to help end these abuses, challenge Dishonour Abuse and protect people at risk.
We want girls to have the chance to study and make their own plans. We want boys and young men to challenge abuse and say, “Not in my name”. We want teachers, police officers and health professionals to recognise danger and respond safely.
What your gift could support
People at risk. Help sustain Freedom’s helpline, safeguarding information and digital resources, including the Freedom App.
Prevention. Support books, school resources and campaigns that challenge FGM, forced marriage and the attitudes used to excuse abuse.
Better responses. Help train teachers, police, health professionals and others who may be the first person someone tells.
Stronger protection. Support public awareness, our Red Triangle campaign against FGM and work to improve safeguarding practice.
Why a legacy matters
Freedom has worked on these issues since 2009. A gift in your Will could help us continue for people we have not yet reached. A gift for our general charitable purposes allows trustees to respond where it is needed as circumstances change.

How to leave a gift
- Put loved ones first. Make the arrangements you want for family, friends and anyone else important to you.
- Choose the type of gift. A fixed amount, a share of what remains in your estate or a particular item are options to discuss with your solicitor.
- Make or update your Will. Ask an independent solicitor or appropriately qualified adviser to record your wishes and check Freedom’s details below.

There is no minimum gift and no obligation to tell us if you include Freedom. You can change your mind. If you want a gift used for a particular programme, talk to us before your solicitor includes conditions: we need to know that they can be met in the future.
Practical questions
Does this cost anything now? You make no payment to Freedom when you leave a gift in your Will. Your adviser may charge for preparing or changing the Will.
What about Inheritance Tax? Gifts to qualifying charities are normally exempt, and in some circumstances may reduce the tax rate on an estate. Your solicitor or tax adviser can explain the rules for you.
Already have a Will? Ask your solicitor whether a codicil or a new Will is appropriate. Do not alter a signed Will yourself.
