Freedom Charity supports schools and colleges with safeguarding education on forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), honour-based abuse and related forms of coercion and abuse.

In England, revised statutory guidance on Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education came into force on 1 September 2026. Schools should use age-appropriate teaching alongside their wider safeguarding duties. Requirements differ across the UK nations, so settings should follow the guidance that applies to them.

Schools

Bring specialist safeguarding education into your school or college. Freedom Charity provides pupil sessions, assemblies, staff training and resources on forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), honour-based abuse and related forms of coercion.

The PSHE Association hosts Freedom Charity’s KS3–KS4 forced-marriage and FGM lesson packs, which are designed for safe, sensitive and age-appropriate teaching. Requirements differ across the UK nations, so settings should follow the statutory guidance that applies to them.

Primary schools

Teaching forced marriage and FGM requires careful planning. Freedom Charity can support staff with age-appropriate language, current law and guidance, warning signs, safe disclosure handling and referral routes. Reporting duties differ by issue, profession and jurisdiction, so training should be used alongside your school’s safeguarding procedures and current statutory guidance.
