Why Freedom

Freedom has worked on these issues since 2009. Its education work includes PSHE Association-hosted lesson packs, books, professional safeguarding training and information to help people find the right support. Our Evidence & Impact page links to independent records and external recognition so prospective supporters can check the claims for themselves.

What we want to change

We want children and adults at risk of forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM) and Dishonour Abuse to find reliable information earlier. We want schools and frontline professionals to recognise safeguarding concerns, respond appropriately and know where to refer people for help.

Grants and partnerships can support school-based prevention, professional safeguarding training, accessible educational resources and routes to support. We welcome discussion of clearly defined projects with realistic budgets, agreed delivery milestones and proportionate evaluation of learning and reach. We will distinguish evidence of activities delivered from evidence of longer-term outcomes.

Help us reach more people safely.

Freedom brings together specialist safeguarding experience, educational books and resources, public awareness and training on forced marriage, FGM and Dishonour Abuse. We welcome funders and partners who want to support prevention, education and access to help.

Help us reach more children and professionals: introduce a school, college, university, nursing or midwifery department; sponsor a clearly scoped school education programme; host a fundraising dinner or safeguarding talk; invite an introduction through your City, livery or professional networks; or explore a personal, corporate or major gift. We also welcome conversations about awareness and fundraising activities around 6 February 2027, the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM. We will agree feasibility, safeguarding, costs and responsibilities before any event or programme is confirmed.

For a serious funding enquiry, we can discuss a defined proposal, its costs and appropriate evidence privately, taking account of the needs of the people and organisations involved.

What substantial funding could support

A substantial proposal would go beyond these headings. Before funding is accepted, the proposal would set out the current position, proposed work, staffing and capacity required, full cost, timetable, measurable milestones, material risks and reporting arrangements. The proposal should explain how progress will be measured and what the available evidence can show.

For trusts and foundations

Freedom welcomes core funding, project funding and capacity-building support where it aligns with our charitable purposes and safeguarding standards. For a serious funding conversation we can provide proportionate information on the proposed work, budget and full costs, delivery capacity, safeguarding, governance, risk, evidence, milestones and reporting. We will explain what the funding would support, how progress would be reported and what our evidence can reliably demonstrate.

Due diligence

Prospective major funders can ask for the information they need to assess a proposal responsibly. Depending on the request, this may include current governance information, filed accounts and financial context, safeguarding arrangements, delivery capacity, risk, data protection, technology, measurement and reporting. Public records are linked where available; for non-public information, use the funding enquiry form and state what your due-diligence process requires.

Help shape Freedom’s future

Freedom has worked since 2009 to help protect people at risk of forced marriage, FGM and Dishonour Abuse. We have developed educational resources, supported people seeking help and worked with schools, communities and professionals. We now want to build on that experience with dependable, long-term partnerships that help us sustain our work and reach more people. For each substantial gift or partnership, we would agree the work to be supported, its full costs, milestones and appropriate reporting.

Trustees would oversee significant commitments, with growth planned around safeguarding, delivery capacity and the charity’s long-term responsibilities. Financial and governance information can be discussed directly with prospective funders as part of appropriate due diligence.
