Who can take part?
Membership clubs, community organisations, faith groups, social associations and staff networks can organise an event, invite a speaker or consider Freedom as a chosen charity. No affiliation or endorsement is implied unless formally agreed.
Police staff associations, health and education networks and professional groups may wish to support education and prevention. Any fundraising or awareness activity should follow your organisation’s policies and be kept separate from official safeguarding decisions.
Forced marriage can affect people of any gender, including LGBTQ+ people facing abuse linked to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Networks and community groups can support Freedom without anyone needing to share personal experiences.
Sports clubs, societies and school communities can fundraise through appropriate, supervised activities. If children are involved, agree safeguarding arrangements before the event.
Fundraising ideas
Host a breakfast, quiz, community supper, coffee morning or fundraising talk. Invite members to join in and share the cause with their own networks.
Organise a sponsored walk, reading challenge or team event. Choose an activity that suits your group’s interests and abilities.
Freedom’s Red Triangle badge is specifically a symbol against FGM. Your group can use genuine badges and approved information for a suitable fundraising and awareness event.
Set up an individual or team fundraising page, share it with your members and explain why you chose Freedom.
For committees, clubs and professional associations
If your committee, club, association or staff network is researching a charity to support, here is the information you need to take the proposal to your members.
Freedom is a specialist safeguarding and education charity founded in 2009. We work to prevent forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM) and Dishonour Abuse through school resources, professional information and training, awareness campaigns and routes to help.
Our purpose connects with girls’ education, preventing violence against women and girls, children’s rights and safeguarding. Groups can choose a suitable activity without having to provide direct support to people at risk. Those who need help have a separate safeguarding route.
Freedom Charity is registered in England and Wales, number 1139657. Our Evidence & Impact page distinguishes the charity’s reported reach from independent records, including the external recognition of its education resources. Governance and public records are available to review.
Choose a charity fundraising breakfast, club talk, art exhibition, sponsored walk, Red Triangle awareness event or shared JustGiving fundraiser. Agree the activity and expenses through your usual committee process before you announce the partnership.

Practical next steps
Appoint someone to speak to Freedom, keep your committee informed and record decisions. Agree who can approve any spending or use of the group’s logo.
Start with an event your members can deliver. Set a date, estimate expenses, agree accessibility and check venue, insurance and safeguarding arrangements where relevant.
Use an agreed online donation or fundraising route, keep a record of cash, and distinguish purchases or ticket fees from donations. If you offer a raffle or auction, check the rules that apply before advertising it.
Thank your members, reconcile the final amount and tell them what was donated. Use Freedom’s published information to describe its work accurately; do not promise that a particular amount saves a specific number of children.
