Plan your fundraiser.
What Freedom does: We work to prevent forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM) and Dishonour Abuse through education, safeguarding, professional training and routes to help. Your event can support this work without asking anyone to disclose personal experiences of abuse.
1. Choose an idea.
Pick something you can organise safely: a coffee morning, sponsored walk, quiz, workplace event, art sale or fundraiser with your community group. See the 100 practical ideas for instructions.
2. Set a target.
Choose a realistic amount, allow for costs and decide when your fundraiser will end. It is better to start with a clear, manageable plan than a large event with no budget.
3. Agree the arrangements.
Confirm the date, venue, organiser, publicity, expenses, safeguarding and permissions. Tell Freedom before using our logo or fundraising in the charity’s name.
4. Make giving easy.
Use an agreed online fundraising page or send supporters to freedomcharity.org.uk/donate/. Keep purchases and ticket payments separate from ordinary donations.
5. Share your plans.
Tell people what you are doing, when and why you chose Freedom. Invite, rather than pressure, friends and colleagues to support you.
6. Say thank you.
Record what came in, pay the agreed money to Freedom and tell supporters the final amount. Avoid unverified claims about how many children a particular donation will protect.

For a personal fundraiser

For a WI, Soroptimist or professional group
“Our [club / network / association] is considering Freedom Charity, registered charity 1139657, as a cause to support. Freedom works on education and safeguarding to prevent forced marriage, FGM and Dishonour Abuse. Members can review its published evidence and governance before deciding. For a workplace

Handle money and information carefully.
Money and payment routes
Agree who will receive and count payments, who will record expenses and how proceeds will reach Freedom. Use the charity’s verified donation page. Do not collect or transmit donors’ card or bank details yourself.
If you sell items or tickets, state what buyers receive and what amount or share of proceeds goes to charity. Purchases are not automatically eligible for Gift Aid. See Freedom’s tax guide.

Safety and permissions
Check venue rules, insurance, food safety and any event licences that apply. Public collections and raffles can need specific permissions: consult the Code of Fundraising Practice before starting.
If children take part, agree arrangements with the school or responsible adult. Do not ask anyone to disclose safeguarding experiences or publish photographs without permission. People needing help should use Freedom’s separate support information.
For valuable artwork, gold, jewellery or antiques, contact Freedom before sending or transferring any item.
