Not in My Name (End FGM)

Freedom Charity’s campaign song brings the Red Triangle message to a wider audience, encouraging people — including boys and young men — to reject FGM and support safeguarding education.

Lyrics: Aneeta Prem MBE. Music created with assistance from Suno under a paid subscription licence. The campaign video includes AI-assisted visuals; it is a campaign film rather than original documentary footage.

Five mistakes to avoid

  • Do not describe arranged marriage and forced marriage as the same thing.
  • Do not use police-recorded HBA figures as a prevalence estimate.
  • Do not say every FGM concern triggers the England and Wales mandatory-reporting duty; the specific duty applies to defined known cases.
  • Do not imply the hymen can prove virginity.
  • Do not identify or enable jigsaw identification of victims protected by lifelong anonymity.

Verified examples available for reporting

Freedom’s authority pages link to CPS and government sources on forced-marriage prosecutions and FMPO breaches, the 2019 first FGM conviction in England and Wales, the 2023 overseas-assistance conviction and the 2024 conspiracy conviction involving both FGM and forced marriage. These are case examples, not a prevalence series. Journalists should use the CPS wording and court outcome for the specific case rather than generalising from a headline.
